Protect your child from screens

When was the last time you saw a child playing in a backyard? It must have been some time ago. The reason for that is simple - an excessive amount of time spent by kids in front of the computer. How can this be fixed? The average Canadian child spends about eight hours in front of a computer screen or TV. The remaining 2/3 of the day have to be enough to learn, sleep, eat, play and develop. This is a relatively low amount of time, considering that school takes up about 6-7 hours a day and sleeping should take 8-9 hours.

So what can be done? The solution is really simple – we should spend more time with our children, teach them how they can really take advantage of their free time from school and learning. It’s best to completely isolate small children from any electronic gadgets – a two year old won’t understand a lot from a cartoon that he’s watching anyways, and will learn much more by playing and singing songs with his mum and dad. In the case of older children, the situation may be a bit more difficult – we have to gradually reduce the time spent in front of a computer screen or TV, and we should show how else it is possible to relax.
